The reference for locomotives and railcars

French Eastern Railway series 11 No. 4401 to 4512

French State Railway 1-141 TB

France 1913 112 produced
4401 on an old post card Pol Gillet PD

The locomotives with the numbers 4401 to 4512, grouped into series 11 by the Est, were 2-8-2T tank locomotives designed by Louis Salomon for the suburban lines in Paris. The first two were built by the Est's shops at Epernay in 1913. By 1917, 110 more had been followed from Epernay and three commercial manufacturers. The driving wheels with a diameter of 1,580 mm allowed a good acceleration at a top speed of 90 km/h. Both carrying axles were mounted in Bissel trucks with a lateral flexibility of 90 mm to both sides.

For multiple decades, they operated suburban trains on the Paris-Strasbourg line. In the twenties, a number were fitted with push-pull equipment. When SNCF was founded in 1938, the 110 remaining locomotives were designated 1-141 TB. When their line was electrified in 1962, they came to the Vincennes line whey they replaced 2-6-2T locomotives, increasing the train weights from 330 to 440 tonnes. There they were used until 1969 when the line became part of the RER network. Some found other tasks until 1972 and today, two are preserved.
