Norwegian State Railways El 2

The designation El 2 stood for only two electric locomotives which were delivered to the NSB in 1923 by Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri (NEBB) and Thunes. Compared to the El 1, they were faster and more powerful. The central body housed the transformer, two traction motors and the control equipment. The small hoods were only used for some auxiliaries. Each traction motor transmitted its power via a crank axle onto a two-axle bogie. On each end, there was an additional leading axle. 

An output of 857 kW was enough to haul 800 tonnes with 42 km/h over an incline of 0.5 percent. On two percent, they could haul 320 tonnes with 30 km/h. For most of their lives the two locomotives were used on the line between Stokke and Horten. They were withdrawn in 1959 and 1967.
