Austrian Federal Railways class 1064

The class 1064 was developed specifically for the yards in Vienna-Kledering and Villach-South to work in heavy hump shunting. Ten were built between 1984 and 1990 by SGP, with electric equipment from BBC, ELIN and Siemens. They were directly derived from the 1063 and even had the same traction motors, but two more of them. While the first batch of the 1063 only had an output of 1,520 kW, the 1064 had 2,000 kW from the start. Thanks to three-phase traction motors, they could combine a high starting tractive effort of 370 kN with a top speed of 100 km/h that would be of use if they had to be used for short-distance freight trains. To work on the hump without a driver in the cab, they have remote control equipment. From 2001, they were equipped with automatic couplers to facilitate shunting.
