Staatsspoorwegen class 1400
Indonesian State Railway class D14
Indonesia 1921 24 produced
The class 1400 was a 2-8-2T tank locomotive ordered for freight service on winding mountain lines in the Jakarta region. The first twelve were built by Hanomag in 1921, followed by twelve more built by Werkspoor in the next year. Due to the steep grades in the mountains, they were also used in passenger service. After the mainline had been electrified between 1925 and 1930, the class was mainly used in heavy shunting service. The DKA and PJKA designated them class D14. They were withdrawn between the late seventies and early eighties. D1410 is the only one that has been preserved. It has been rebuilt to working condition in 2019.
