Korail class 8000

Korail's class 8000 is an electric locomotive that was intended for passenger and freight traffic. It was developed by the 50 Hertz Group for the 25,000 volt network. The first 90 were built by Alstom between 1972 and 1980 and four more by Daewoo between 1986 and 1990.

They stand on three two-axle bogies and are visually reminiscent of the French locomotives with Nez Cassé. Since they were primarily used on mountainous routes, the top speed is only 85 km/h. After the class 8200 was introduced by Siemens in 2002, the class 8000 was only used in freight transport. After Hyundai introduced the 8500 class in 2012, the class 8000 was almost completely phased out.
