The reference for locomotives and railcars

General Electric ES44C4

United States 2009 1304 produced
BNSF No. 8013 in May 2014 in Dallas, Texas CSX,LLC CC0

Since the new three-phase traction motors could transmit a power of 1,100 hp, the BNSF ordered some ES44AC with only four traction motors. This saved costs and complexity while still hauling fast, lighter freight trains with the same efficiency. In order to get more traction from the four powered axles, air pressure cylinders on the bogies are activated depending on the situation to reduce the load on the non-powered axles. The BNSF ultimately received 1,280 locomotives and the Florida East Coast 24 more.
