Denver & Rio Grande Western class 46s

The first standard gauge locomotives used by the Denver & Rio Grande were three 4-6-0 built by Baldwin in December of 1881. Works numbers were 5934, 5936 and 5949 and they had drivers of 45 inches, which were powered by cylinders of 14 by 20 inches. On the railroad they became No. 155 “Uncle Sam”, No. 156 “Trinidad” and No. 157 “Salida”. In October of 1887, they were renumbered 503 to 505. 504 was the first to leave the D&RG when it was sold to the Denver, Lakewood & Golden Railroad in June of 1899. The other two were sold in April of 1906: 503 to the John L.Roper Lumber Co. and 505 to J.E. Brown.
