Ferrocarril de Antioquia No. 1 “Antioquia”

The first locomotive of the Ferrocarril de Antioquia was a small 0-4-0 saddle tank built by Manning Wardle in 1875. It carried the works number 535 and was the only locomotive built by this manufacturer for Colombia. On the railway, it got the number 1 and the name “Antioquia”. It burned wood that was carried above the water tank. To allow the filling with water even with a high heap of wood, it had a filler mounted high above the tank that can be seen in the photo.

Even after the introduction of more powerful locomotives, it was used for construction trains. According to a report of a Sr. Esneyder Gutiérrez, this locomotive derailed in a ravine at La Malena in the 1890s and fell into the water. Only the boiler could be salvaged and was used as a stationary generator.
