Great Southern & Western No. 33 and 34

In 1869, Inchicore built two tank locomotives for passenger service which had been designed by Alexander McDonnell. They were numbered 33 and 34 and were possibly the first Single Fairlies ever. As such, they stood on a powered two-axle bogie at the front and an unpowered two-axle bogie at the rear. While the front bogie carried most of the weight of the boiler, the rear bogie had to carry the supplies. The driving wheels had a diameter of 67.5 inches and the cylinders measured 15 by 20 inches. No more locomotives of this type were built, instead regular 0-4-4T tank locomotives of the classes 28 and 47 were ordered. 33 and 34 were withdrawn in 1889.
