Illinois Central class 3610

The class 3610 of the Illinois Central contained 15 2-10-0 “Decapod” locomotives built in 1939 at the railroad's Paducah shops. The running numbers were 3610 to 3624. Their wheel arrangement was rare in the USA, but these locomotives were created by merging the remains of other locomotives. Their frames and cylinders came from the 2-10-2 class 2900, which were too slow by modern standards. Basically they lost their trailing axle and the drivers were enlarged from 63 to 64.5 inches. Their boilers came from the class 1501 2-8-2.
