Indian Railways class YC

The YC was an IRS standard design of Pacific passenger locomotives built for metre gauge. Compared to the YB, it also had drivers with a diameter of 57 inches, but was somewhat larger. The cylinders had a diameter of 17.5 inches and a stroke of 24 inches. Between 1928 and 1932, Nasmyth, Wilson & Co., Škoda and Vulcan Foundry built 28 locomotives which made the design less successful than the YB. Two of these went to the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway, 13 to the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway and 13 to Burma Railways.

After World War II, Burma Railways ordered ten more from Vulcan Foundry which brought the total number to 38. With the founding of Indian Railways in 1951, the 15 locomotives from Indian operators came to the Southern Railway zone. In 1975, all were gone. The only two which were preserved are two from the post-war batch for Burma.
