Siems, Carey-H. S. Kerbaugh Corp. No. 700 to 702 and Shay C-70-3

Numbers 700 to 702 of Siems, Carey-H. S. Kerbaugh Corp. were three 70-ton three-truck Shays delivered in October 1918. The sole purpose of the company was to build a camp for the US Army at Siemscarey, Washington. Originally they had ordered six 42-ton two-truck Shays, but the order was changed to the model C-70-3. The end of the war meant that work on the camp was halted and the last three Shays were directly sent to Vancouver Barracks in Washington. Also the first three were brought there and now all were sold to different operators.

All spent most of their lives in Washington and Oregon. No. 701 shown in the photos had the biggest number of owners and was operated in logging and steel production until 1939 when it had to be abandoned after a fire. It was recovered and refurbished three years later and now came to Diamond Match Co. in Stirling City, California. There it was in operation until 1953 and then scrapped.
