Jura-Bern-Luzern G 3/3

Starting in 1887, the Bernese Jura Railway (JBL) received ten 0-6-0T tank locomotives from the SLM. They were to be used on the flatter sections of the Brünig Railway and had drivers with a diameter of 1,050 mm. More locomotives of identical or similar design were bought by other railways: three by the Bière-Apples-Morges Railway (BAM), one by the Apples-L’Isle Railway (AL) and two by the Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway (MOB).

Since the locomotives of the MOB had to climb grades of 7.3 percent, their drivers measured only 950 mm, while the boiler pressure had been increased from 10 to 12 bars. Additionally, locomotives of the different operators had different sanders and brakes. After one JBL locomotive had been sold to the BAM in 1921, three of the now four BAM locomotives were superheated. 

Two of the MOB locomotives were sold to Luxembourg in 1906 and 1918. Depending on the operator, the locomotives were withdrawn between 1911 and 1956. Today, the locomotive that has been sold to the BAM in 1921 is still operational at the Blonay-Chamby heritage railway. It is running either with the BAM number 6 or Jura-Simplon number 909.
