The V250 is a high speed train built by AnsaldoBreda for the “Fyra” services between Schiphol in the Netherlands and Antwerpen in Belgium. It was operated by a collaboration between the state railways NS and SNCB and the airline KLM. The sets are composed of eight cars with four axles each. They can operate under 25,000 V AC and 1,500 or 3,000 V DC. Originally, there were 546 seats in two classes. The manufacturer's designation V250 is a reference to the top speed of 250 km/h.
16 sets were ordered by the NS and three by the SNCB. They were only used under the Fyra brand for 39 days in December 2012 and January 2013 before the SNCB stopped the service due to safety concerns. After some years in storage, the Italian FS bought 17 sets in 2017, while the other two are still in storage as donors for spare parts. They are designated ETR 700 and only have 497 seats in three classes.
