The ЭП2К (EP2K) is a six-axle locomotive for passenger service under 3 kV DC. It was mainly developed to replace the older ЧС2 and ЧС2Т locomotives built by Škoda in the sixties and seventies. It has an axle load of 22 tonnes, a top speed of 160 km/h and an hourly output of 4,800 kW. In 2006 and 2007, one prototype each was built by Kolomna with support from the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Factory.
By 2025, 510 had been completed, with production still going on. While the production of more modern Russian locomotives which had been designed with the help of western companies had been halted in 2022, the ЭП2К does not rely on foreign components. Newer locomotives feature a more modern exterior design. Most are being used by the West Siberian Railway. Additionally, more than 100 each are being stationed at Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and around 50 at Samara.
