Missouri, Oklahoma & Gulf class 201

United States 1910 20 produced
No. 225 at Fort Smith, Arkansas Ed Bowers collection

These 20 Consolidations were built by Baldwin for the Missouri, Oklahoma & Gulf between 1910 and 1912. They were characterized by drivers of 52 inches, cylinders of 20 by 26 inches and Stephenson valve gear. The first ten were delivered in 1910 and 1911 and carried odd numbers between 201 and 219. Ten more, with slight changes, followed in 1912 with odd numbers between 221 and 239.

Delivered with a boiler pressure of 180 psi, this was raised to 185 psi in 1917 and to 200 psi in 1923. By 1917, ten had been superheated and equipped with Southern valve gear. Two years later, the Missouri, Oklahoma & Gulf became the Kansas, Oklahoma & Gulf. In 1929, No. 235 was given to the Osage Railway in exchange for a 2-10-0. By 1944, twelve were still on the roster of the KO&G of which six were superheated and six were still saturated.
