The ТЭП10 (TEP10) was a single-section passenger variant of the ТЭ10 that was introduced in 1960. Having the same 3,000 hp opposed-piston engine, it had lighter traction motors optimized for lighter trains and higher speeds. Originally it was planned to be designated ТЭ11, but its similarities with the ТЭ10 led to the addition of the letter П for “passenger” to the original designation. The 335 locomotives also got the nickname “Strela” or “Arrow”. They were retired in the early nineties and seven were preserved.
