The type 71 is a three-car electric trainset built for the “Flytoget” service between the Gardermoen airport and Oslo. It was built by Adtranz in Norway and originally each set consisted of three cars with one bogie of each car being powered. Top speed is 210 km/h, what also applies to the line it is being used on. The 16 sets built in 1997 and 1998 are being used for service between the airport and Oslo every ten minutes, with each second train running to Asker 20 km to the west of Oslo.

To increase their capacity, an additional powered trailer was built for each set by Bombardier in 2008 and 2009. Six sets were bought in 2020 by Norske Tog to be leased to other operators. The type 78, a variant of the CAF Oaris, was built since 2017 for additional capacity on the line. Due to problems, these were only fully placed into service in 2023.
