The RENFE series 490 is a tilting three-car electric multiple unit based on the Italian ETR 460. It was ordered for the “Alaris” service between Madrid and Valencia. Ten sets have been ordered from GEC Alstom and FIAT in 1996, with options for 14 more. The first ten were delivered from 1998, but the option was not converted into an additional order.

Each of the two end cars has two 510 kW traction motors and the trains were approved for a top speed of 220 km/h, although top speed in regular service was 200 km/h. From 2010, they were used on other lines. After cracks were found in the bogie frames, all were withdrawn in 2014. In 2022, RENFE announced plans to refurbish six sets.
