The first variant of the FLIRT EMU ordered for use in Norway was the type 74 that started operation in 2012. This variant consists of five cars and was designed for InterCity service. It makes full use of the larger loading gauge that is possible in Norway and has a body width of 3,200 mm, what provides enough space for 2+3 abreast seating. 54 sets were built, although one was destroyed in an accident before entry into service due to excessive speed.

The next variant was the type 75 that also consists of five cars and offers five seats abreast. The most notable difference is the interior that is optimized for longer commuter lines. In total, 83 of this variant were built. Finally the type 76 is special in having an additional generator car that contains four 480 kW diesel power packs for running on lines without overhead lines. In electric mode it only has an output of 3,000 kW instead of 4,500 kW for types 74 and 75.
