Korail's class 8000 is an electric locomotive that was intended for passenger and freight traffic. It was developed by the 50 Hertz Group for the 25,000 volt network. The first 90 were built by Alstom between 1972 and 1980 and four more by Daewoo between 1986 and 1990.

They stand on three two-axle bogies and are visually reminiscent of the French locomotives with Nez Cassé. Since they were primarily used on mountainous routes, the top speed is only 85 km/h. After the class 8200 was introduced by Siemens in 2002, the class 8000 was only used in freight transport. After Hyundai introduced the 8500 class in 2012, the class 8000 was almost completely phased out.

The then Pakistan Western Railway had the 276 km long route between Lahore and Khanewal electrified with 25 kV alternating current until 1966. The locomotives came from a British consortium of AEI and English Electric and were designated BCU30E, which stood for “British Consortium Universal, 3000 horse power, electric”. The electrification of other routes was planned, but failed due to many tunnels that were too low and a lack of electricity.

The 29 locomotives were used on the only electrified route for several decades in passenger and freight service. In 2007, number 7027 was brought to the museum in Golra, when the locomotives were slowly showing signs of aging. From 2009 they were only used in front of freight trains and in 2011 the electric operation in Pakistan was completely discontinued. A resumption of electrical operation is still questionable today. Although the overhead wires have never been officially dismantled and the pylons remain intact today, the cables have been the victims of copper theft on a large scale.

The E 68000 is an electric multi-purpose locomotive developed by Hyundai Rotem for the Turkish State Railways. Škoda supplied the electrical equipment. Only the first eight locomotives were built in South Korea, all others were built at Tülomsaş in Turkey. Compared to the older, six-axle class E 43000 locomotives, they have lower tractive power, which initially proved to be a problem when starting heavy trains on inclines. Although there is a need for hundreds of more electric locomotives in Turkey, they apparently decided against producing more E 68000s.
