The 2000-T was ordered by RENFE in the sixties to haul lightweight Talgo III sets. Among the requirements was a low center of gravity and a low overall height. Krauss-Maffei could offer a design that met these points. Similar to the German V 200, it had two Maybach engines and hydraulic Mekydro transmission. Each one delivered 1,200 hp, for a total of 2,400 hp. Although the Talgo sets could be separated from the locomotive, they only had a cab on one end.
Ten were built, which were initially numbered 2001-T to 2010-T and later became class 352. In 1966, 2005-T reached a speed of 230 km/h. Twenty years later, the approved top speed was increased from 140 to 160 km/h. Over time, they operated on different lines due to electrification of the previous lines. Withdrawals started in 1993 and were completed by 2002.
