These locomotives were a standard freight type of this railway in central Germany. They featured a round-topped firebox that was much higher than the boiler barrel and was crowned by a large dome. With this configuration it was possible to get dry steam for feeding the cylinders. It had three coupled axles with the unique feature that the first two were mounted in inside frames, while the third one was mounted far back in outside frames to make space for the firebox. This ensured both good curve negotiation and enough support for the heavy firebox. The first five were built by Borsig in 1968, among which was the “Ocker” that can be seen in the photo. The 33 others came from Vulcan of Szczecin.
