In 1912 and 1913, North British delivered a total of 18 0-6-6-0 Mallets to the Uganda Railway. They were of a standard design also built for other metre gauge operators in India, Burma and Spain. They were not superheated and had cylinders with diameters of 15 1/2 and 24 1/4 inches, respectively. Their power was enough to haul 170 tons up a long four percent incline at 6 mph. At only 2.5 percent, they could haul 200 tons at twice the speed. It did not take long until the KUR introduced Garratts which were more powerful and easier on maintenance. So the Mallets were already withdrawn in 1929 and 1930 and scrapped.
