The ЭД9 (ED9) is an electric multiple unit for service on suburban lines which are electrified with 25 kV AC. It was built between 1995 and 2016 and is related to the ЭД2Т that was developed for 3 kV DC. Each set consists of four to eleven cars and depending on the version, the fronts have a totally different design. The first one was the ЭД9Т shown on the photo that had a traditional, angular design. The ЭД9M was an upgraded variant that had the same modernized appearance as the ЭД4. Another variant that shows an even more modern design, but still corrugated side walls and was also modernized in the electronics is the ЭД9Э (ED9E) built from 2006.
