In 1937, ALCO-Schenectady delivered six 4-8-4 locomotives to the Toledo, Peoria & Western Railway which were intended for fast freight service. They were designated class H-10 and got the running numbers 80 to 85. At only 361,000 pounds, these were the lightest Northerns ever delivered to any American Railroad.
They even had an adhesive weight 30,000 pounds lower than that of the class H-8/H-9 Consolidations which were 30 years older. To still create enough power, they had arch tubes and thermic syphons. With drivers of 69 inches (1,753 mm) and cylinders measuring 23.5 by 30 inches, they exerted a starting tractive effort of 51,000 pounds (227 kN). After a service life of only 13 years, they were all scrapped in 1950 and ended the steam era of the TP&W.
