The G 5, being the last steam locomotive designed by the Palatinate Railway, was a two-cylinder compound 0-8-0 freight locomotive introduced in 1905. By 1907, 24 had been built by Krauss at Munich. They were the first saturated locomotives in Germany to use piston valves. In 1925, the Reichsbahn took over 22 and made them class 5559. The last ones were retired by 1929.
