The WCAM-2 is a six-axle mixed-traffic locomotive for service under both 25 kV AC and 1.5 kV DC. Under AC they are delivering 3,516 kW and only 2,174 kW under DC. Although all 20 locomotives have a rated top speed of 120 km/h in AC mode, some have a higher gear ratio for focus on passenger service and are designated WCAM-2P. As more and more lines were converted from DC to AC, Indian Railways started to remove the DC equipment from the first locomotives in 2015. With the first ones approaching an age of 30 years, the first withdrawals started in December 2024.
