The first 2-8-0 locomotives built for Finland came from the USA. Baldwin delivered 20 in 1899 and 1900 which were called class K1 and got the nickname “Satikka”. They had very small drivers with a diameter of 1,120 mm and their cylinders measured 406 by 508 mm, or 16 by 20 inches. They were designed in a way so that many parts were interchangeable with other steam locomotive classes built by Baldwin for the VR. Between 1903 and 1906, Tampella built 34 in Finland which were designated K2. These were modified to metric dimensions and had larger cylinders. From 1942, the K1 became the Tk1 and the K2 became the Tk2. The Tk1 was withdrawn in 1959 and the Tk2 followed in 1960. Tk2 No. 418 can today be found on static display in Junction City, Oregon.
