Under the designation D19E, the Vietnamese railways are operating a total of 80 six-axle metre-gauge diesel locomotives with a power of 1,950 hp. The designation stands for diesel, around 1,900 hp and electric power transmission. They were designed by Chinese manufacturer CSR Ziyang (now CRRC) and got the type designation CKD7F. Power comes from a twelve-cylinder Caterpillar 3512B. With a top speed of 120 km/h and electric train supply, they are suited for both passenger and freight service. The first 40 were built in China between 2001 and 2004 and 40 more were assembled between 2007 and 2012 in Vietnam. Depending on the batch, the locomotive body has either a traditional, more angular design or the rounded design shown on the photo.
