Saxon VIII V 2
German Reichsbahn class 369-10 and Polish State Railways
Germany | 1896
118 produced

For use with heavy passenger trains, the VIII V 2 was derived from the VIII V 1 express locomotive. It received significantly smaller diving wheels, but still had a two-cylinder compound engine and a Belpaire firebox. The latter had a smaller grate here, but apparently a larger firebox area. The cylinders were now somewhat smaller. The locomotives were primarily used on mountainous routes and were also used there in front of express trains, despite the maximum speed of only 80 km/h (50 mph). After the First World War, one came to Poland as Od101, while another 111 came to the Reichsbahn as the class 369-10. They were soon replaced by superheated locomotives and retired by 1931.
