Between 1907 and 1913, ALCO-Schenectady built 18 high-boilered Consolidations for the Rutland Railroad. They were delivered in four batches of 6, 4, 2 and 6 which formed the classes G-34a to G-34d. As delivered they worked on saturated steam, but were superheated later. Since the New York Central was in control over the Rutland when they were delivered, they got the NYC numbers 2414 to 2431 but were only used on Rutland trackage. When the Rutland became independent again in 1914, they just lost the “24” in front of their numbers. When some were used for express freights in the thirties, they were apparently semi-streamlined around the running boards. Retirements started in 1939 and were completed by 1952.
